The distribution of wealth has been thinking on the part of thinkers since antiquity . According to Plato , wealth should be distributed in an egalitarian way, while according to Aristotle , it was to be distributed in proportion to the effort of each.By introducing the concept of charematistic Aristotle condemned the practice of accumulating wealth for themselves and not for any purpose other than personal enjoyment.
Year Middle Ages , Thomas Aquinas sought to reconcile the thought of Aristotle with Christian doctrine, and has developed the scholastic philosophy . In this context, he took over Aristotle’s ideas on the economy , and tried to change the mind of the Church in the area of interest .
The xvi th century until the middle of xviii th century , the economic doctrine of mercantilism advocated the enrichment of nation-states first using the gold imported from the colonies ( bullionism developed mainly in Spain and Portugal), then the trade , but also of industrialization .
In the second half of the xviii th century , Adam Smith , founder of the so-called classical school of economics , criticized mercantilism, and in particular the bullionism , refusing to gold and silver value measurement wealth, and stressing that this is essentially a princely wealth. He explains that the origin of the net worth of nations is more work (concept of division of labor ), the accumulation of capital , and the size of the market.
Subsequently, the production of wealth will be associated with the notion of production factors , which are mainly capital and labor .
